The table needs to be square to the blade, the guide bar needs to be square to the blade, the blade guides need to be set to the blade, etc.

The Blade Everything on the saw needs to be adjusted with respect to the blade. (Note: updated with tension spring info at the end) The saw is assembled and ready for adjusting all the parts that matter (to me!). Don't dither if the saw is on Craig's List and the price is reasonable. I use a 1 HP 14' occasionall for resawing and it works well if the blade is sharp and the stock under 5' in my experience.

Fit's model 141 woodworking saw and the model 143 metal working saw. The Carter Powermatic 14' conversion kit updates your saws performance through the use of model 2300 all sealed. The Jet should have at least a 1 HP motor for most efficient resawing and more is always better. The motor HP is now the most important issue and if both are the same that's great. The additional resaw capacity will be an asset if and when it's needed.

The availabilty of special guidess like those from Carter may be more available on the Jet. If the Jet has the welded steel frame it is definitely newer and that's the one I would prefer. Both companies are now under the same management, so parts and service will be similar.
